The Bissoon Institute of Mesotherapy was created in 2004. The Institute was the first to offer ACCME approved CME's for training in Mesotherapy. Since then, some programs have attempted to follow this model. However, few programs offer CME credits for their training. Dr. Michael Pistor, the founding father of Mesotherapy, referred to the treatment as "Surgical Medicine," meaning medications are injected directly into the skin at the site of the pathology or problem area(s). To treat cellulite, medications are injected into the skin and the fat. During a cellulite treatment of the legs, medications are injected from the buttocks to the knees, including the front, back and sides of the thighs (as described in The Cellulite Cure).

Mesotherapy introduces microscopic quantities of homeopathic medications, traditional pharmaceuticals, vitamins, mineral and amino acids into the skin to treat a variety of conditions. All medications are selected for the specific condition being treated. For example, the emphysema medication Aminophyilline is used to treat cellulite because it's been proven to break down fat, as has Isoproternol. Both medications work to achieve the same purpose in different ways, which is why the medications are often combined. The needles used in Mesotherapy are very short and thin. For white skin, a 4 mm needle is recommended, and for black skin, a 6 mm needle is used so the doctor can deliver the medications to the right depth. By definition any medication injected into the skin, fat or tissues of Mesoderm (middle layer of skin) is considered Mesotherapy. The advantages of injecting medication into the skin/fat include the elimination of side effects and contra-indications. Intolerance to a medication is often triggered by factors such as dose and the body's ability to break down and excrete the product. In many cases, formerly intolerant patients can tolerate a medication in Mesotherapeutic form.

As discussed in The Cellulite Cure, once the medication is delivered, the body is stimulated to heal itself. And because the target areas are directly reached, smaller amounts of medication are needed and the effects of Mesotherapy are instantaneous. Micro-injections are relatively painless, and the potential side effects limited to:

Burning that can last 15-20 minutes.
Minor swelling that can last 1-5 days (this can vary with some patients).
Minor soreness that can last several days.
Minor skin discoloration, which resolves on its own, or can be treated with chemical peels to remove it quickly.
A slight risk of infection (which may occur whenever an injection is administered).

The Treatment

Prior to a Mesotherapy session, Dr. Bissoon identifies and maps the area to be treated. Once the area is mapped, the site is cleansed with alcohol, and the patient placed on the treatment table before micro-injections are given. When treating cellulite, mapping is extremely important, since most cellulite will disappear when lying down, making it difficult for the doctor to know exactly where to treat. After Your Surgery

A small tube may be placed in each breast to drain off blood and fluids for the first day or two. Skin Incision

Implant Placement
Subglandular- implant between the breast tissue and the pectoralis muscle. This position closely resembles the plane of normal breast tissue and is felt by many to achieve the most aesthetic results.
Subpectoral (dual plane) - the implant is placed underneath the pectoralis major muscle after releasing the inferior muscular attachments. As a result, the implant is partially beneath the pectoralis in the upper pole, while the lower half of the implant is in the subglandular plane.

Size and type of the implant is dependent upon the frame of the body and to the degree of enhancement the individual desires.

Anesthesia and Aftercare
Breast reduction is nearly always performed under general anesthesia.
The procedure is done as a day case and few follow up visits are required.

Breast Lift or Mastopexy

Breast ptosis or breast droop is the condition when the nipple have drooped to the level of the crease beneath your breast . The severity of the ptosis increases as with nipple drooping below this level. You can have your own assessment by looking in the mirror and carefully inspecting the breast.

In such situation, breast implant surgery does not work (you might wrongly feel that implant insertion may take care of the problem).

Procedure
Mastopexy procedure will reposition the breast along with the nipple and areola to the desired position thus correcting the breast ptosis and resulting in a aesthetically pleasing appearance of the breast. There will be a scar around the areola (hardly noticeable with passage of time) or may extend from the areola to the crease.

Anaesthesia and Aftercare
Operation is performed under general anesthesia and generally completed in two to three hours time.
Overnight hospital stay is required.

Gynaecomastia (enlarged male breast gland)

Gynaecomastia is a condition in males when the mammary glands are abnormally developed resulting in breast enlargement.

It can result in embarrassment, cruel teasing, and social trauma. Affected men try to hide it with thick shirts, avoiding bare chested activities such as swimming or work outs, and withdraw from public exposure.

Underlying cause of gynecomastia is unknown in majority of the cases.

Endoscopic Forehead Lift or Brow Lift

Endoscopic Brow lift or forehead lift is done through tiny incisions behind the hairline and therefore the scar is hidden. Forehead lift minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead or between the eyes and repositions or raises a low or sagging brow to a more alert and youthful position.

Procedure

A brow lift is performed using an endoscope (surgical video device) and special instrument placed through small incisions made within the hairline.

Anesthesia and Aftercare

Choice of intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Swelling is maximum on day3 or day 4 after which it gradually comes down. Sutures removed at around 10-14 days.

Facelift

Facelift procedure or rhytidectomy corrects the signs of aging in the face in the form of skin laxity, sagging, deep creases, jowls or loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw.

Botox

How To Bathing Your Newborn Baby

First, you should ensure that you have a suitable baby bathtub for the job. Preferable, use a bathtub that has a sloped base, and line the base with a non-slip mat. Fill the tub with lukewarm water, testing the temperature with the corner of your elbow.

If may be much easier on your back if you use a changing station. Many of the stations sold in our local department stores come with concealed bath-tubs, hidden under the changing mat. The best thing about these stations is that they are usually the "perfect" height, so that you won't have to bend whilst bathing your little one. Believe me, the bending is back-breaking! Also, many stations have useful compartments and shelves for you to neatly store your soaps, creams, powders, diapers and other baby stuff!

*Make sure that all fans and airconditioners are turned off - you wouldn't want baby to catch a chill!

Step by Step:

The first thing you need to do is to wash your baby's hair, behind the ears and neck. You can do this before placing baby into the water, and you can keep his cloths on until after you've washed his head. Don't wash his face - that will probably only make him struggle! You can use sterilized cotton dipped in cool sterilized water to wipe his face before or after his bath.

To bath baby, place him gently in the bathtub whilst supporting his head, making sure that he doesn't hit his head if he should kick or push himself upwards! Use a soft sponge (I recommend Mothercare sponges) to scrub him gently. Splash the water all over his body for a good wash, avoiding his face and ears. Most importantly, don't miss any crevices.

How do I hold my baby when he's taking his bath?
Well, you should ensure that you support his neck with your forearm. With the same hand, grip around his armpit securely. This will ensure that baby doesn't slip from your grip and injure himself. Use your free hand to lather and scrub your baby.Talk to him in a gentle, reassuring tone to help him enjoy the bath!

Once you're done bathing baby, lift him out of the tub making sure you maintain your grip around shoulder and with your other hand support his bottom. Transfer him onto a towel, wrap it around him and dry him off. Apply some nappy cream, put on his cutest baby outfit and you're good to go!

Although not the only means of exposure, your diet is an important factor in protecting your infant from chemicals in breast milk. You can avoid some -- but not all -- chemicals by being careful about what you eat.

Despite the problems with persistent organic pollutants, nursing is still a better option than formula for the vast majority of women. Of course, it is important to consult with your doctor about your individual health needs. Generally speaking, however, women who are pregnant, who plan to become pregnant or who are breastfeeding, should:

Quit smoking or never start, and keep others from smoking in your house or car
Avoid alcoholic beverages
Avoid use of pesticides in the home and garden or on pets
Avoid exposure to solvents, such as paints, non-water-based glues, furniture strippers, gasoline fumes, perfume and nail polish
Avoid dry cleaners and recently dry-cleaned clothes
Eat a balanced diet low in animal fats and high-fat dairy products
Avoid fish that may have high mercury or PCB levels, such as swordfish, shark, tuna and locally caught fish (see NRDC's guide to Mercury Contamination in Fish for more information)
Eat organically grown food, if available

Women who may be exposed to chemicals in the workplace have special concerns. For example, women exposed to solvents or other chemicals need to determine if these chemicals could be entering their bodies -- through inhalation or through the skin -- and then if they can get into breast milk. It is also important to know if the chemicals may be hazardous to their babies' health. These types of questions often require the attention of a medical specialist. Women who have questions about special exposures and breastfeeding, should contact a Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit.

Women who are considering whether or not to breastfeed, should:

Some Explanation

As noted, diet plays a major role in the accumulation of persistent, bioaccumulative chemicals in breast milk -- in particular, fatty foods from animals or fish. The accumulation of such chemicals in a person's body is a long process, so small or temporary changes in diet may have no effect on the levels found in breast milk. Becoming a vegetarian or lowering consumption of animal products during short periods (i.e., during or before pregnancy) has minimal effect on the levels of these chemicals in the short term.

Not every chemical that enters a woman's body will persist. Many are attracted to water rather than fat and will exit the body through breath, urine or feces. Chemicals that bioaccumulate up the food chain, however, have very few exit routes from the body; indeed, for many of these chemicals, the only real exit is via the fat in which they are stored. Breast milk is rich in that "fat."

Of course, breastfeeding lowers the levels of chemical contaminants found in a woman's body and in later samples of breast milk. So with every child a woman breastfeeds, her levels decrease, meaning that subsequent children will receive lower levels of chemicals. In addition, the duration of breastfeeding affects the levels found in breast milk: the longer a woman breastfeeds, the more her body burden of chemicals decreases, and the lower the level in her milk.

Chemicals that are not persistent and bioaccumulative are easier to avoid because avoiding exposure for several hours or days allows the chemicals to be eliminated from our bodies, thereby decreasing or eliminating their presence in breast milk.

Many of the contaminants in breast milk cannot be removed by short-term lifestyle changes. For example, a short-term switch to a low-fat, organic diet will likely not affect levels of DDT, dioxins and other persistent chemicals in a woman's breast milk. These chemicals must be addressed by stopping pollution at the source. Some of the contaminants, however, can and should be avoided by women -- mercury-contaminated fish and solvents in household products, for example.

Weighing all factors, scientists and medical professionals recommend a diet low in animal fats and high in organic fruits, vegetables, and grains. Such a diet is preferable for two reasons: first, supporting organic agriculture and eating less meat will help protect the environment and decrease the chemical load we impose on our children's children; second, pesticides and other chemicals that we do not currently even test for in milk could pose a risk to a breastfeeding mother and her child.

It is now well documented that baby massage can play a vital role in aiding relaxation, digestion and to promote bonding.
